This press release crossed my desk. As Ellen Christine is my favorite hatmaker, I simply had to share the information! More specifics as they arrive.
For decades, the Saint's Day of St. Catherine has been celebrated by milliners worldwide.
New York City milliners have taken up the torch and created their Made in Manhattan version of a St. Catherine's Day Parade. The Fete is on the 17th of November, and has as its backdrop the picturesque menagerie of the Carousel in Bryant Park and the extraordinary exhibit from Victoria and Albert Museum in London: Hats: an Anthology by Stephen Jones.
The Milliners Guild's membership comprises some of the most colorful accessory designers in the world of hats : 50 and more milliners who love their craft/art!
This event coincides with Hats: an Anthology by Stephen Jones, a world-acclaimed exhibit housed at BCG until April 15th. A lecture, The Surrealist Hat, will be given by Dilys Blum, curator of costume and textile at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
As I said, dahlings, more will be revealed, and you shall be the first to know. And remember, wear a hat!

As many of my faithful readers know, it is simply not New York Fashion Week without Ellen Christine's sensational hats, a number of which I have been privileged to wear.
So it is a great delight to announce:

Exclusive Preview and Moët & Chandon Champagne Reception on Valentine’s Day
Recent buzz around Ellen Christine’s hand-crafted headpieces has landed her on the cover of Italian Vogue (January 2011) and she is bringing her latest Met-Inspired collection for an exclusive preview and champagne reception to the heart of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Fall 2011 – the Met Opera Shop in Lincoln Center – on St. Valentine’s Day, Monday, February 14 from 4 to 6 p.m.
Visitors will sip Moët & Chandon Rosé Impérial Champagne and shop these brilliant collections of cocktail hats veiled in silk, custom-dyed feathers, organza streamers, felt and Swarovski crystals, specifically inspired by the Met’s productions of Carmen and Armida. The Carmen collection stems from Ellen Christine's Spanish heritage, and from the drama that happens onstage because of "La fleur que tu m'avais jetee." Red, for the heartbeat of the production, and black, mimicking the final gown onstage with Carmen and Don Jose, are the two atelier-made flower and feather headpieces.

New York Fashion Week Fall 2010 Is Nearly Upon Us!

Once again, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week (as they insist you call it) is going to be roaring into New York City next week. And your faithful correspondent is preparing as fast as she can.
Not only will I be wearing items from my extensive collection of plus-sized vintage fashion. But I will also be wearing couture pieces specially designed for moi by:
Mad Couture; Mad Couture designs extreme fashion for plus-sized women.

This time I intend to dazzle the masses as well as working as hard as humanly possible to bring you the wonders of the runway. (I think my nose grew five inches when I wrote that last sentence, but never mind.)

Guest Blogger: "The September Issue" Film Review

My dear friend Sumana Harihareswara, (say that five times fast), is a technology executive who does the sort of work I don't understand and can't possibly explain. And she is a delightful person. Now this might have you thinking, "Is our faithful correspondent in a parallel universe? Is she high? A technology executive, delightful?"
Fear not, cherished readers, my sanity is intact. Sumana brings a perspective to the arena of fashion that I find refreshing, since those that toil in the fields of style tend to suffer from, shall we say, an atrophied sense of irony. Everything, from what hemline is in to what shoulder treatment Diane Von Furstenberg is using, is so deadly serious.
In any event, we attended the film, The September Issue, together, and her review is well worth reading. It sums up much of what we discussed afterward. (The link to her blog, Cogito Ergo, Sumana, is on the right.)

It's called The Mad Hatter Scavenger Hunt. Win an exquisite cocktail hat (and what woman doesn't want that?) by following the clues from hat shop to hat shop! The participating hat shops include:
